§ · Colophon

A colophon.

Coord is a working desk for Australian unit coordinators and program directors. This page says what it is, what it is not, who makes it and how, in the place a book would say so.

Sandstone arches and columns of a university cloister in low sun, in ink duotone.

§ 1 · What it is

A desk beside the university's systems.

A coordinator's semester lives in the student system, the LMS, a curriculum tool, a timetable, a payroll form and an inbox, none of which was built for the person who has to hold them together. Coord is the private, per-offering workspace where that person plans the period, runs the team, records every exception, marks and moderates, and produces the artefacts governance asks for: the outline, the moderation record, the results file, the board pack, the review, the handover.1

It complements and never replaces the university's curriculum system, LMS, student system or payroll. Everything it says about a mark is provisional until the system of record publishes it. Files come in and files go out; there is no integration to approve.1

§ 2 · Why a book

Rules, margins, footnotes, stamps.

Coordinators are academically senior and administratively under-served. They live in policy documents, unit outlines, rubrics and results spreadsheets, and the product that will feel made for them is one that reads like a well-set university press book and works like a marking desk. So Coord is set on paper, not glass: rules divide, the margin holds the notes, claims carry footnotes, and a stamp appears only when an act happened, with the date and initials of the person who did it.

Every mark on the page encodes state or structure. The one curve in the whole system is the red-pencil circle around the census date, because that is the one date that moves a student's fee liability.3

§ 3 · How it is made

One platform, one external service, open type.

Coord runs entirely on Cloudflare: Workers for the application, D1 for the database, R2 for files, Durable Objects for live collaboration, Queues and Workflows for long jobs, Workers AI for drafts. Primary stores are placed in Cloudflare's Oceania region; we do not make an unqualified Australian-residency claim, and we say why on the trust page.4 Twilio is the only external service, used for text messages.5

The type is Fraunces for display, Source Serif 4 for reading and IBM Plex Mono for codes and stamps, with Atkinson Hyperlegible Next available in the app as a plain-type preference. All four are published under the SIL Open Font License and served from our own origin; apart from Cloudflare's own anti-abuse widget on two forms, nothing on this site loads from another origin. Photographs are from Pexels under the Pexels License, each with its source recorded beside the file.6

§ 4 · Acknowledgement of Country

Where this is made.

Coord is made on the lands of the Traditional Custodians of the place where we work. We acknowledge them, and the Custodians of the lands on which Australia's universities teach, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Coord does not store Indigenous status. Where a coordinator needs to refer a student, the right action is a referral to the university's Indigenous education unit, not a flag in a third-party database.8

§ 5 · Imprint

Coord, coord.tools, 2026.

Coord is the product name; the wordmark is coord.. The working title in early research documents was Quadrangle; it is the same product. Write to hello@coord.tools, or use the contact page. Entity name and ABN will be shown here once registered. (founder to confirm)

Notes

  1. Coord complements and never replaces the university's curriculum system, LMS, student system or payroll. Every mark it emits is provisional until the system of record publishes it. Coord product requirements §1; see Trust.
  2. Program directors and convenors typically aggregate across ten to forty units they do not run themselves. Coord product requirements §2, drawn from role descriptions summarised in the program-director research.
  3. Teaching-period dates (start, census, break, study week, exams, results) are taken from each university's published academic calendar for 2026 and 2027 and stored, never derived. University academic calendars, retrieved September 2026.
  4. Cloudflare's documentation states that D1 “Jurisdictional Restrictions (data location / storage) options are not supported today” and likewise for Workers KV; location hints influence primary placement but are not a residency guarantee. 5. Everything runs on Cloudflare; Twilio is the only external service and is used for SMS. Coord architecture decisions #2 and #10.
  6. Fonts are self-hosted from Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License; all photographs and videos are from Pexels under the Pexels License with a metadata sidecar per file. Coord architecture decision #8; media credits.
  7. Authentication is magic link and magic code only; no passwords, passkeys or SSO. Coord architecture decision #13; see Security.
  8. Indigenous status is sensitive information; a teaching tool should not store it. Maiam nayri Wingara Indigenous data sovereignty principles (2018); Victorian Information Privacy Principle 10.
